It all started out as a simple good friend act of kindness and ended up costing me some money. How you might ask? Well, it is February in Michigan and like all frozen golfers, it was time for our pilgrimage down south. This year it was a trip to Doral for several days and than on to Orlando to take on some of the fine courses in that area. As it turns out I could not make trip this year do to business, however I did offer to send every body's golf bag through my business UPS account. Anyway, besides one guy waiting till the last minute to send his clubs which I will get to later, it was all fairly harmless, every bodies bag came in around 45 to 55 lbs and all arrived in time to be sent ground, which from Michigan to Florida is around $50 bucks, which I gladly collected from each golfer, so I thought. Anyway, as I got my bill from UPS a week later, I noticed all these surcharges which tacked on another 40% to each set of clubs. The surcharges were added because our shipping manager forgot to put in the dimensions of each golfers shipping case. Let me just tell you, if you plan on shipping golf clubs make sure you put in the dimensions as it adds to the cost significantly. As a good friend I could not go back and ask for more money so I just eat the added charges. However, one friend waited till the last minute, which required the clubs to be sent 2nd day air. Well, 2nd day air racked up a charge of around $190 dollars, which is an education in don't be late, however the real surprise came with the surcharge the total bill coming to $340 bucks. Anyway .... this is an expensive lesson learned. Never, ever offer to help you friends ship their golf clubs.
